About Us I have been a police officer widow since 1981, when my husband, an officer with Sacramento Police Department, was killed at age 22 while we awaited the birth of our first and only child, a son I named Bill. I am currently a jail nurse at El Dorado County Jail and have been employed in corrections as a Correctional Nurse at the county jail level and at state prisons in both California and Nevada. I have also worked as a Correctional Officer at a level 4 maximum security facility in Nevada. I started writing poetry when Billy turned 18 and continue to write today. Though I write about many things, 90 percent of my writing deals with line of duty incidents and the effect that it has on those left behind. I have been greatly enriched by my writing as it has enabled me to meet others who have a similar history to mine, and we understand each other's grief and pain. We take turns holding each other and drying each others tears. I have also been very blessed to make many new friends in the law enforcement community who are there with open arms when I need a hug or a kind word. Or in some cases, as with a few certain friends, a special joke or two. ( Jokes that aren't fit for publication, but sure make me laugh! thanks Tim) Bill has finished college and is now working in the San Francisco bay area and skiing on his days off. Staying out of trees I hope! Special thanks to Tim Motto, New York State Fraternal Order Of Police, who will always be a special friend, Charles Shinholster Of Florida COPS, also a very special person, and JD Coarsey, of the Hendersonville, TN police department, who gave me a lot of encouragement when I was just starting to write and hesitant to share it with anyone. And a very special thank you to all of the officers that I work with, including the California Highway Patrol, the correctional officers at El Dorado County Jail, El Dorado County Sheriff's Deputies, and especially the police officers at the Placerville Police Department, who have been so supportive of me and my efforts. Please feel free to share your thoughts with me. For now, the best way to reach me is through my email: brokenbadge81@yahoo.com. Thanks, Liz
