A Blue Night
Walking a lonely beat Late at night, Silver moonlight Their guiding light, Men in blue, Wearing a badge and a gun, Yearn for the warmth Of the early rising sun. Babies sleep soundly Through the quiet night, While blue daddy’s badges Reflect flickering starlight. Mothers of blue sons Say a whispered prayer, Asking God to keep their little boys safe Blue cops with a touch of silver in their hair. Wives of the blue Toss in a restless sleep, Listening for that knock at their door And the cries of men as they weep. Cold winds blow Through the starry night, As blue sons and daddies Walk in the blue night.
