Blue Shirts
We wear their faces, On our backs on shirts of blue, With pride and tears we say, “There wasn’t anything that they would not do.” Their badge number Is proudly displayed below their name, Along with the date When our lives changed and would never be the same. I look at the face on my shirt, And I see the same face on my boy, “This is my daddy” He tells all with joy. Though his daddy never held him, Took him fishing or played ball, “This is my daddy,” He so proudly tells all. At home I wash and fold My shirt with great care, For it is all that is left Of hopes and dreams, When life pretended to be fair.
