The Guardian
As I lay me down to sleep And I ask the lord my soul to keep, In the dark silent night I hear her wings rustling in flight. She guards my soul Throughout the long night, Silent and watchful Until the dawn’s first light. At times she shines With such an inner light, Joy upon her face Her eyes so bright. But once in a while Sorrow I do see, Touch her gentle face Fleeting though it may be. I’ve seen a tear Fall from her eye, I wonder what it takes To make an angel cry. With a look of regret She begins to depart, I feel such sorrow Deep within my heart. Man knows not What the fates will bring, Be it joy or sorrow I’m grateful for her protective wing.
