Little Angel Wings
Little Angel Wings Just flew in, Too excited to wait For angelhood to begin, So he left early Left way too soon, Now his momma is weeping Staring into his empty room. His wings are tiny Too small to be of use, His halo is shiny Although a bit loose. A tear mars his cheek Below his left eye, Throughout God’s eternity He will forever cry. Never for him Childhood dreams Throughout a sleeping night, Never for him The boyhood schemes That gives mothers such a fright, He has seen too much to bear You can see it in his eyes, In his trembling little chin As he remembers that big angels don’t cry. He is watched over By the caring unseen eye, From one who knows he’s here too soon And gives a regretful sigh. Little Angel Wings Bouncing from cloud to cloud, Halo all askew Laughing so very loud. Little Angel Wings Tugs on the unseen hand, Yelling, “tag you’re now it Catch me if you can.” Riding heaven’s rainbow As it begins to glow bright, The stardust in his hair Casts a shimmering sight. Little Angel Wings Watching his mommy sleep, He leaves her a feather So she’ll have something to keep.
