The Man Behind The Badge
Midnight and quiet He dresses in blue, Battle worn and weary Bearing a scar or two.
He shines his badge As he watches his wife sleep, Kissing her softly He suddenly feels an overwhelming urge to weep.
Walking soundlessly in his polished boots He nears his sleeping son’s side, Gently he covers his boy His heart full of fatherly pride.
Looking in the hall mirror Straightening his tie, He sees the man behind the badge And breathes a long sigh.
He dons his shiny hat And slowly walks out the door, Asking God to keep them safe And to let him see his family once more.
Midnight and quiet Dressed in blue, Battle worn and weary He has a job to do.
