Old Blue
Someone Threw me away today, Why they did They didn’t say. I never barked I didn’t cry Though I spent The cold nights outside. I never cried Though tied to a tree, I’d just watch the birds Flying and free. Now, homeless on the dark street Looking for a safe place to hide Though I was brokenhearted I never cried. Trying to sleep In the cold black night I heard the echo of his footsteps And saw him walking under the soft moonlight. He was a man with a badge Shiny boots and a gun Looking my way, he softly said, “Welcome home, blue one.” He gave me a hug, Then carried me inside Safe by the warm fire I finally cried.
